The procedure is pretty much like you do in Windows XP, but in Windows Vista, you can do it in many ways - and they are much easier.
Simplest way - Select and Right click on the Font(s) you want to install and select Install from the context menu that appear. Your font will be instaled if it is right for Windows Vista. But it will confirm your acceptance by asking you through user account control pop up window. Simply click on Continue, and you are done.
The other way - Open Control panel, swith to Classic View by clicking on Classic View button on the top left corner of Contrlo panel Window. Open Fonts folder and then right click on an empty space on its right pan where fonts are listed. Install New Fonts... context menu will appear. Clikc on it and then browse to Fonts folder for the fonts you want to install and click Install button after selecting from the available fonts list, and you are done.

Thanks for the great tip. I used this post as a source for my recent blog post at www.faster-pc.net/blog, and cited your blog. I'm looking forward to reading more of your insight on Vista! All the best.

hi,
I have .fon type raster font which works fine in XP But in Vista it is Not working Any Solution?
what if you don't have Administrator permissions on your computer?
That was helpful. It stopped me from throwing my computer, Vista and all, out the window.
thanks for the tips- worked like a charm
I downloaded and installed but it wouldnt work on open office. What now?
i tried installin it but it dont work. when i right click on a file; my options are open, cut, copy, delete and properties
after you install the font find its properties, and the folder location. copy and paste it into the search bar in the start bar. then right click on the file and hit install. good luck!
Thank You. I just bought Vista Ultimate. Wanted to use fonts on Photoshop but couldn't have them installed. Thank you once again.
Boy that was straightforward, many thanks for the tip. I can get on designing some certificates with my newly installed font now.
Thanks for the tip. I was frustrated at the inability to move fonts directly into the "Fonts" folder. I would never have managed it without this, thanks.
PS: MicroSoft need to allow us to manually install fonts!
My right-click menu still won't give me the "Install" option, even if I find its properties, folder location, paste it to search bar, and right click it there. What am I doing wrong?
thanx
the tip worked :)
The Vista install option from the context menu (i.e. right-click) is not available for fonts unless they are on a local drive, and not in a zip file.
Go, Tanman! between this article and your insightful comment, I'm back in business and not ready to shoot Vista right off my laptop!

Wow great tip !!! Could solve my problem... AS i'm a great admirer of handwritten fonts...... !!!!!!!
I somehow got some fonts to download off of a free fonts website, but they went into a zip file and I don't know how to get them into my fonts folder so that i can use them!!! can anyone help?
thank u so much....ur an angel :)
Thought I would add my 2 cents in for some people who are having trouble.
For those who do not have the "install fonts" option do this:
Open My Computer > Local Drive (usually C:) > Windows > Fonts.
Now anywhere in your Font Folder, right click, and "Install New Font"
Make sure your new font is already unzipped, and in a location you know so that you can find it to install. Hope this helps.
Thanks Thanks THanks a lotttt
For the first time I installed fonts on my computer.
THis article is really worth.
I just Love it.
